MY STORY:
I suffered from chronic health issues for a long time. One of the major issues was improper digestion/ constipation. I was only 16 and was put on laxatives to get rid of my digestive problems. Laxatives little did I know of that time, did more harm than good. Had laxatives for about 10 years. It drained every essential nutrient out of my body rendering me weak and nutrient deficit. Also, it severely dehydrates your body. Even though I was only 16 I felt like an old grandma. Encountered one problem after the other. I lost my vitality, my confidence and also the charm on my face. The funny part was I had no idea my health was deteriorating due to those laxatives I was consuming to clear my constipation. According to doctors, laxatives I was prescribed had no side effects. But it did a serious long-term damage to my health. I did not only loose my vitality but also my skin started looking old and dull. Developed sinus issues, breathing problems and allergies that would never go away. I had these problems for about 10 years until I went and saw a skin doctor and he asked me to stop taking those pills. Since then I started feeling better but the damage it did gave rise to other unknown problems that went undiagnosed most of the time. I discovered that I had become so dependent on those pills that my body failed to break down food on its own. The food would just sit like a stone in my stomach if I didn’t pop those pills. It had completely destroyed the micro biome inside my body. And my body failed to derive complete nutrients from the food I eat. Ever since this hit me, I started researching about it in depth.
I know there are millions of people out there struggling with such digestive issues. I just want to share things that provided me relief from my problems. Hopefully it will bring a change in your lives too. The solutions I’m sharing here are tried and tested upon myself and are all natural, easily available products and remedies.
1. If you have Sinus issues, breathing problems –
CAUSE - You are most likely allergic to dairy products and Gluten
EFFECT - Body is unable to break down the protein present in dairy products such as milk and flour containing gluten
REDEMPTION - Avoid eating/drinking dairy. Use butter, and/or clarified butter (ghee) in your diet. You can add ghee to lentils soup or any soup or cook vegetables in ghee. Make your eggs in ghee. You will notice a drastic shift. All your sinuses will open up. Lemon (Vit C) also cuts through phlegm instantly. So having a glass of lemon water or an orange juice may also provide instant relief. Vit A supports the mucous membrane and helps to reduce inflammation as well. Kale, Carrots, Cod liver oil and Butter are all good sources of Vit A and C. Take Digestive enzyme supplements like protease, lactase, amylase, lipase etc that aid in the breakdown of foods you eat.
2. Do you often suffer from Acid Reflux / Heart Burn –
I have suffered from Acid Reflux for years. It was so severe that I had to take Tums (antacids) after every meal. And when Tums didn't work, I would take Prilosec (acid reducer) first thing in the morning. I was sick and tired of it until I learnt the true cause of Acid Reflux, Heartburn, Gas, Acidity, Bloating or GERD.
CAUSE – The real cause is - having a low stomach acid.
The acid present in the stomach is called Hydrochloric Acid. This acid is responsible for the digestion of the food in stomach. Certain foods dilute this acid present in our stomach making it more alkaline (meaning reducing the acidity of the acid present in stomach).
EFFECT – When the acidity decreases and alkalinity increases, the valve present along the food pipe doesn’t close. As a result the acid travels up and you feel a burning sensation in your throat. When it’s severe you may even feel it in your brain.
REDEMPTION – Avoid drinks like tea, coffee or soda that contain caffeine. Caffeine is a major factor that decreases the acidity and increases the alkalinity of stomach acid thereby misguiding your appetizing hormones. Stay away from all sugar as well. Sugar makes the acid reflux worse.
Note – you can have antacids like Tums and Prilosec but they only make it worse. Because these are only good for temporary relief. Best remedy is to rely on natural sources like apple cider vinegar or have medicine containing Hydrochloric acid (HCL) For example - Betaine HCL or PANPLEX 2-phase is available on amazon and is my favorite. This shall provide instant as well as long-term relief. It's really good for people especially whose gallbladder has been removed. If you decide to take Panplex 2-phase - please start with half a tablet or one-fourth of the tablet first (because it's strong). If you get headache after having it, that means the dose was strong and it made your stomach too acidic. drink some tea to reduce the acid. But that's also a sign that you need to reduce the dose.
3. Indigestion could be a huge problem: Chances are your body is not digesting the food well because it's not able to break down the food and so its not absorbing the nutrients out of it. you could also be having Leaky gut issues! Instead of opting for laxatives to get rid of your digestion issues, choose Probiotics. Probiotics are an amazing solution to everything. It breaks down all the undigested matter in your body by sending immune signals to your brain. And enhances the absorption of nutrients in the intestines giving you more energy. It also helps in healing the gut lining and the intestines by regrowing villi. One of the good probiotics I have tried is - 50 and wiser multivitamin and women probiotics by Garden of Life. I absolutely love it. They are available everywhere. You can also try "Zenwise probiotics" with digestive enzymes. Its vegan and pretty effective. Another one I’m a huge fan of is “Enzymedica” digestive enzymes. It contains DPP IV - an enzyme that breaks down gluten as well.
4. Do not underestimate the power of eating SALADS! Adding salad to your diet will take away the 80% of the problem. Salads provide essential amount of fiber that keeps the food moving through the digestive system. Having a bowl full of salad with lunch and dinner can bring a drastic change as to how you feel. You will feel that your food definitely got digested better and faster. I also recommend drinking lots of water throughout the day.
In addition, Spiritual practices also contribute majorly in acquiring good health. Imagine what all you will be able to achieve by having good health. My dream is to be healthy, feel good and be able to dance happily and express myself. DANCE is the food for my soul! What's yours?
